I am an experienced specialist in Gastrointestinal Nutrition, with a particular interest in Irritable Bowel Syndrome.
After 10 years working in Oxfordshire and London in busy NHS teaching hospitals, I set up my own consultancy, Digestible Nutrition. I am a member of The British Dietetic Association and registered with the health professions council.
One of the ways I enjoy keeping up my continuous professional development as a Dietitian is through my voluntary work on the Committee of the Gastroenterology Specialist Group of the BDA. As part of this work, I co-wrote “Evidence-based practice guidelines on the dietetic management of Irritable Bowel Syndrome for Adults” (Nov 2010). Based on a systematic review of the scientific evidence on IBS and important components of our diet such as milk, dietary fibre, probiotics and exclusions diets Dietitians throughout the UK can use this practical guideline to ensure their clients take the best dietary route for their symptoms to get better. I also contributed to the National Institute of Health and Clinical Excellence guidelines on IBS in primary care (2008).
I have a Masters Degree in Nutrition and a post-graduate Diploma in Dietetics, both from King’s College London. My roots are in Oxford where I gained a BSc Honours Degree in Nutrition, Food Science and Catering Management from Oxford Brookes University and their Silver Memorial Award for innovative work on healthy eating in pubs.
For more than 25 years I have worked professionally with food and people, including a career in catering management within restaurant, hotel and health club businesses.
