Digestible Nutrition is a dietetic consultancy for anyone with a digestive problem, disorder or disease who wants personal, practical, caring expert advice to help their symptoms.

I run two clinics in modern rooms at Nuffield Health hospitals in Oxford and Cheltenham – occasionally I can make home visits for those who are unable to travel.

During your consultation, you will be able to:

  • share your symptoms, helping you to gain relief from them
  • use my extensive experience of helping people with gut issues to help you
  • use my empathic dietetic and specialist skills to help you to have control over your gastrointestinal symptoms

The best way to explain my method is to think of a cup of TEA – one of my favourite drinks! T stands for the time we spend working on your symptoms. E is the Evidence we gather and sift through together. A is the Action you take – and which is spelled out in your personal action plan.

Time

1.An initial consultation: 60 – 75 minutes

  • This session is non-intrusive and all the information you share with me is confidential.
  • I listen to you and learn about you, your symptoms and your lifestyle. Ideally this will include a 7-day food and symptoms diary.
  • I assess your diet in relation to your gastrointestinal symptoms and its nutritional adequacy.
  • I put together an Action plan for you.

2. A second consultation: 45 minutes

  • Review the effectiveness of the treatment you were given usually 4 to 8 weeks after your first appointment.

3. Further consultations as required: 30 – 45 minutes

  • 4. Getting time off from work or other commitments is sometimes difficult. I can review your symptoms and diet over the phone.
Some of my patients are keen to lose weight at the same time as working on their gastrointestinal symptoms. I am happy to take this into account, supporting gradual sustainable weight reduction without compromising your diet’s nutritional quality.

Evidence

One of my jobs as a Dietitian is to sift through the evidence you give me about your condition. It’s surprising how confusing it often is for us to work out which aspects of our diet really matter. We are also bombarded with unhelpful messages from the TV, newspapers and internet about what we “should” or “shouldn’t” be eating.
I can sort out the facts from the fiction, giving you safe practical advice and information.

As part of maintaining my professional status, I have to demonstrate my competency and skills to the Health Professions Council. This involves attending study days and keeping abreast of latest research in my field. This ongoing process means I keep a sound evidence base for my practice.

Action

1.You will leave your consultation with a written achievable dietary plan. This includes:

  • foods and drink that are easy for you to digest
  • foods to avoid or limit, to provide you with relief of your symptoms
  • a description of the ways that your diet and lifestyle should benefit you
  • any lifestyle changes I recommend for you

2. If this information needs to be more personalised then your dietary action plan is emailed or sent first class within 36 hours of your consultation.

3. I try to ensure that you are able to carry out the dietary action plan. Any foreseeable difficulties are discussed, so your plan can be altered to fit in with your lifestyle.

4. Your action plan is designed to ensure that your overall diet is nutritionally balanced.

5. After your consultation, I write to your Consultant or GP to keep them informed. You will receive a copy of this letter.

6. I offer online and telephone contact after your consultation to support your dietary changes and maximize the relief of your symptoms.
